Welcome to EoN...

Welcome to EoN, which stands for Eye On Nation.

EoN is a webMagazine which serves as a platform for the staff and pupils of Zhenghua Secondary School to post articles and/or comments about school activities and/or issues pertaining to National Education, Social Studies, History and even Geography! We hope to raise the level of awareness and encourage active citizenship among our staff and pupils through this initiative.

Join us on this journey. It may be long and tedious, but good company expedites the process and lessens the load. =)

Learn a Foreign Language! It's German (Deutsch) today!

With the Youth Olympics Games taking place in August 2010, Singaporeans can expect to see their little island city-state bustling with excitement and joyously filled with visitors of different nationalities.

Learn a simple phrases in different foreign languages so that you can greet these newfound friends in their native language.

Surprise your teachers and classmates in school with these greetings!
In English

The chosen English greetings are "Hello!", "How are you?", "Have a nice day.", "Many thanks!" and "Goodbye!"

Today's Translation:

German / Deutsch: "Hallo!" -> "Wie sind Sie?" -> "Haben Sie einen netten Tag." -> "Viele dank!" -> "Auf Wiedersehen!"

In German, the "a" is pronounced as it is in car. The "w' is pronounced like a "v". The "v" is pronounced like a "f".

Wie sind Sie? = How are you?
... Pronounced like "V sin(d) C".

Haben Sie einen netten Tag. = Have you a nice day.
... Pronounced like "Ha-burn C i-nurn net-turn tug".

Viele Dank! = Many thanks!
... Pronounced like "fi-ler dunk". =)

Auf Wiedersehen! = Until we meet again / Goodbye / Farewell.
Sehen refers to "see/meet", "Wieder" means "again" and "Auf" refers to "until".
... Pronounced like "Ow-oof  v-durh-c-hurn".

Hope you have learnt something useful today. Try it on your teachers or friends today!

If you would like to know whether you are pronouncing it correctly, do feel free to check with me (Mdm Sharon Seow). =)
