Discussion Point - Chilean Earthquake

Chile Earthquake (8.8 on the Richter magnitude scale) vs. Haiti earthquake (7.9)
Youtube Video [1]
Youtube Video [2]
Discussion Point:

1) How do you feel about the Chilean disaster?

2) If you wish to help, what do you think you can do and how can you go about helping?
- Did you know that Chile is the YOG participating country that Zhenghua Sec Sch is twinned with?
- More information on the Chilean disaster and general information about Chile will be given in your CME-NE lesson.
- Did you also know that our school is raising funds to assist the Chilean disaster victims? Do your part and donate!

3) Reflecting on natural disasters happening in Chile and other disaster-prone countries, how do you feel about living in Singapore?

4) There are obviously problems that need to be solved (as seen in the video clip). What do you think the government needs to do at this stage and in the future?
- You may wish to consider the psychological and physical impact of the earthquake and tsunami on the Chileans as well as on their neighbours.

I think we are fortunate that we don't have natural disasters in Singapore. We should do our part in helping them, not just by raising money.

I feel that Singaporeans can donate more money to help the Chileans. If Singapore have an earthquake, people would donate money and help us. If people help us, why can't we help others?

I felt very sad and pity for the Chileans. They have to suffer all of these disasters. I hope that we as Zhenghuarians still could continue to twin with them in this upcoming national event called Youth Olympic Games that will held in Singapore. I try my best to help them by donating money. I hope that they may find peace in life after this disaster.

I feel bad for the Chileans. The earthquake there was a huge one which was the biggest this year, the earthquake led to tsunamis that also led to even more disaster to the country.
I will donate some money to Mercy Relief and let them use the money to buy needs for the victims there. So that their life there would not be so difficult and miserable.

I feel bad for the chilean. Chile's earthquake was far more powerful than the one in Haiti and has sent strong waves prompting tsunami warnings in the Pacific. I will play my part in helping out in the fund-raising.

I pity the Chileans and feel very sad for them. They are facing many problems now. Some has lost their families and homes. They are also in need of food. Most importantly, I feel that they need both financial and medical help.
All of us are trying our best to help them by donating.
I hope they get lots of help.

I pity the chilean that they are in this state now because of the earthquake. I can help them improve the state that they are living in now by donating some money to the mercy relief. Most of them lost their homes, and have no food to eat. We are fortunate to have a shelter to live on. So, we should help the chilean.

I pity the chileans upon their misfortune because they have lost their homes or maybe their family members. What we can do to help them is by donating some money which can help them to build houses for them to stay in.I feel very fortunate not to be affected unlike these chilians.I feel safe living in a safe country like singapore.

1) I feel sad for the Chilean.
2) I think i can help by donating money and can give the amount of money i want to donate to Mercy Relief or by the school.
3) I feel that beling able to live in Singapore is a very fortunate thing as Singapore is not prone to disaster and is very safe, so that we can live without fearing that natural disaster will strike on us.
4 ) I think the government at this stage should send helpers over and help the Chilean , no matter if it's by medical, financially or physically.
In the future, the government should cultivate habits in them to recycle, reduce and reuse. This ensures the reduction on Global warming and can also reduce the risk of another disaster strike.
