Welcome to EoN...

Welcome to EoN, which stands for Eye On Nation.

EoN is a webMagazine which serves as a platform for the staff and pupils of Zhenghua Secondary School to post articles and/or comments about school activities and/or issues pertaining to National Education, Social Studies, History and even Geography! We hope to raise the level of awareness and encourage active citizenship among our staff and pupils through this initiative.

Join us on this journey. It may be long and tedious, but good company expedites the process and lessens the load. =)

I think that the event which happened this year was pretty interesting, like the total defense day talk, it teaches us how to must ourselves to defend our country. Also, it has taught us to defend what we want to defend when something bad happens.

I really feel that the trip to the museum is really amazing. I always thought I knew Singapore well. But after the journey, I learnt a lot! I did know some common facts about the dress code in the 1950s however, I do not know that some clothes that are popular now actually exist then! I also know more about the culture of different occupation and how opium addiction had harm people. If i had a chance to visit again, I would. I really want thank the teachers for giving me this opportunity to be on this wonderful trip.

The events in zhenghua sec are very cool. i espiecally like the assembly (total defence asembly talk) as they have quizes and this will make the students will be active and answer those questions.
and so, this what i like about the programs of the NE. therefore i hope that teachers showing powerpoint slides could have quizes or having interesting games or programs.

I saw alot of artefacts,videos and different cultures of food and what they wear in the past times.
I learn about how HDB flats was built for and why there is national library.Furthermore,I also know more about how Singapore was built to be a independant country after so many thicks and thins.
I think we should know more about that history of Singapore.(;

i feel that the trip today was fun and useful as we get to learn more about Singapore's past. We also get to know more about how Singapore struggled through wars to what it had become now. we also get to know the past fashions and food which can hardly be seen in modern Singapore now.

It helped us to better understand the history of Singapore and the way they lived. The displayed artefacts has also showed us how the items used in our daily lives has changed throughout the history of Singapore. They also had devices installed with programs to aid us in the understanding.

Events in Zhenghua like Total Defense Talk, etc, I personally think it should be encouraged to be done more. Except try conveying the message over to us in another way, because that too long sitting in the hall will cause leg to be numb. The, Cyberwellness talk is also quite fun as there are quizzes that are given to us to do. ;D

Hi. I learnt more about National Education-related stuffs. Such as the Total Defence Day. I wrote a reflection on the "I Will.." card where there are my reflections about my goals for Singapore. Anyway, I think the Sec 4s and 5s have done a good job on organising Total Defence Day this year. :)

I learnt that singapore started off as a fishing village and then when Raffles founded singapore.
William farquhar then developed singapore further. During the japanese occupation, the japanese came by bikes and singpore was controlled by the japanese. They had to learn how to speak japanese. After that the British bombed japanese. After that the British came back but singapore did not want the British. That was how singapore became independent. After so much hardwork, Singapore became independent so we need to have the spirit to protect singapore.

We were greeted by a video of the modern Singapore which was played in the surroundings when we entered the museum. After that we went into another room to have a glimpse of the traditional life of the ancestors of Singapore. From there, we were given freedom to choose between two paths, the events path and the personal path. For me, I went to the personal path because I have a better understanding of peoples' reasonings. I was introduced to various people whom I did not heard of from my History / Social Studies lessons. Then came the infamous incident, the Japanese Occupation. I learned that the Japanese called the period where they ruled Singapore "Syonan-to".
